The Sisters of Standout Chic Are Here to Save Your Style

Gabriella and Michelle are on a mission to bring sustainability to the forefront of Chicago’s vintage fashion scene.

As co-owners of Chicago-based online fashion label Standout Chic, sisters Michelle Garcea and Gabriella Arencibia know a thing or two about fashion. Growing up, the duo spent their weekends popping in and out of local thrift shops and estate sales, developing a skilled eye that contributes to the styling services they offer through their brand.

“As far as styling goes, it’s been a big part of our lives,” Arencibia wrote in an email. “We’ve always felt that personal style is a great way to express yourself and truly show who you are. Also, there’s something so satisfying in helping someone find the perfect outfit for a special occasion or even for every day. In fact, Gabriella has dedicated her career to fashion and has been a stylist for 10+ years. She is Standout Chic’s very own expert stylist.”

At the heart of Standout Chic is not only a mission to introduce customers to sustainable fashion, but to provide them with pieces that encourage individuality and a unique personal style. This 50’s Micro Pearl Fringe Shoulder Bag and 90’s Fine Wine Leather Jacket are just a few of the pieces on their online shop that fit the bill.

“Many vintage pieces are going to be rare, unique and sometimes one of a kind, which is one of the many reasons why we like styling with vintage,” wrote Arencibia. “Our name “Standout Chic” says it all. We love pieces that are going to make you stand out as the best version of yourself while feeling chic and confident.”

When asked what advice she would give to those just stepping into the world of vintage fashion, Arencibia encouraged patience.

“If you’re new to vintage a great place to start is by checking out local vintage shops or finding sellers like Standout Chic on Instagram who have dedicated their time to curating a collection of vintage items,” she wrote.

At a time when sustainability is finding its way to permanence within the fashion industry, the women of Standout Chic know where they stand.

“We love what we do, this is honestly our passion. We’re excited about our future and the possibilities. And when it comes to sustainability we’re always learning and evolving. It’s important to us.”
